CARE OF OUR MARES AND FOALS
Our mares, foals and youngstock are kept together in a herd on a large acreage so that the foals can play, explore through water, up and down different terrains, gallop and build their proprioception, strength and agility. You can see some video footage on this site.
We ensure that each mare and foal receive the very best nutrition catered to the individual from before conception, throughout pregnancy, lactation and weaning.
Regular bodywork is done on our horses in the form of myofascial release, massage and equine acupuncture if required to encourage balance and correct posture as they grow.
Our foals are halter trained, used to having their feet done, being washed, loading onto floats, coming in and out of stables, rugs on and off and exposure to farm machinery, dogs and many other experiences to ensure they are ‘good citizens’ with a solid foundation before they go to their new homes.
Careful attention is given to match the right foal with the right person so that a happy and fulfilling partnership can be established between the foal and their new owner.
Weaning takes place at Argento around the 7-8 month mark as this has been found to decrease the stress to both mare and foal and there is some evidence to suggest that a little while longer with their dams reduces the risk of a horse suffering from severe separation anxiety later on in life.
We take pride in producing calm, sensible, happy and healthy horses who can bring many years of pleasure to their new owners and be wonderful ambassadors to their breed no matter in what discipline they find themselves.
